A brief introduction of
Kunsang Choling Nunnery, Kapan, Kathmandu.

Kunsang Choling Nunnery (KCN) is a small institution for nuns, located at Kapan, at a short distance around 2 kilometers from Boudhanath Stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal. It was established in the year of 1995 A.D. with only 5 nuns, by Lama Gondup. Today (2012 A.D.) the enrollment rose up to over fifty heads and the number is in ascending condition. Most of the nuns at KCN belong to the mountainous regions at the border area of India, Nepal and Tibet. In those areas there are no means available to educate children owing to serve and harsh enviroment and inaccessibility. The nuns consist of different age groups. The institution is to facilitate only the girl-child with different aspects of knowledge in Tibetan Buddhism, like reading, writing, grammar, poetry, rituals and performing arts, philosophy, meditation etc. Beside this, classes on English language and simple mathematics are held to enable the nun to understand daily chores. The nunnery aims to provide the girls an equal opportunity as the boys in this field too, so that they can explore the infinite knowledge, wisdom and spiritual power
